Story 1
A 17 year old girl in Warakapola in Kegalle district has received a mobile phone as a gift from her mother for having got through GC Olevel and she opened a Facebook account through this. Overtime, she became friendly with a man and they exchanged their phone numbers and started a conversation continuously. One day, they decided to go to the beach. From there the took her to a hotel and had sexual intercourse. This was repeated a several times. All of a sudden she fell ill and the mother had taken her to a hospital and there they found that she was pregnant. Now she has delivered the baby and the man has promised to marry her once she reaches 18 years of age. The complaint went to 1929 UNIT who had complained to their own police unit at NCPA unit. They referred to Warakapola police who referred to the courts and the judgment was that handed over to the mother and verdict is for that girl to marry when 18.
Story 2
A 17 year old girl from Halmillewa is left behind with her two brothers and father as her mother migrated due to poverty about 2 years back. The girl was studying in grade 12 in the same school as her brothers. One day when she was coming back from school, a trishaw driver began to follow her. Overtime they got into a relationship and then on the pretext of going to school, she went with the trishaw driver and had sexual intercourse. One day, she departed with the trishaw driver without informing her brothers or father and had gone to Bingiriya and stayed at a place for 1 week. Once she returned the father had made a complaint to the police and the police took them both to custody. Later the daughter was giving back to the father. At the time of the complaint, she was 3 months pregnant. The police asked the trishaw driver to marry the girl one she reaches 18 years of age.
